Hi All,
Following the big build up of it being McIlroyV's Speith it was Rickie Fowler that came out ontop in Abu Dhabi. The tournament had its fairshare of talking points from Jordan Speith beingpulled up by European Tour officials on the newslow play policy to Rickie Fowler's interestingnew fashion style. Rickie was sporting high topboots and 'jogger' trousers - will these takeoff?
Maybe not one for the traditionalists but fairplay to him and not for the first time he ismore than happy to move golf fashion along - ifit encourages more youngsters into the game thenthis can only be good!
The youngsters as we all know are the future ofthe game, here at the club on Sunday we have ourfirst Girls OLGCA Play Day of 2016 on the 9 HoleBlenheim Course - more details can be found here.
The other talking point from Abu Dhabi wasJordan Speith being given a "monitoring" penaltyfor taking too long over a putt on day one. Itmight not sound much but it is good to see theEuropean Tour Officials flagging this up andmaking an example of the World Number 1 - let'shope they continue to do this throughout theseason and also on the US Tour as well -anything to improve pace of play can only begood for the game.
Later in the newsletter we cover pace of play inthe rules and how we can improve this.

Pace of play
Very few golfers would admit to beingslow players but we can all do our bit to play alittle bit faster. Here are some tips from theR&A site:
- Be ready to play
- Play promptly when it is your turn
- Keep up with the group in front
- Invite the group behind to play through if youare delaying them
- Play a provisional ball if you think your ballis lost
On the Putting Green DO:
- Assess your line, repair pitch-marks on thegreen and remove loose impediments while othersare playing.
- Move off the green as soon as all players inyour group have holed out.
- Mark score cards on the way to or at the nexttee.
- Leave the putting green quickly when play hasbeen completed
- Speed up your exit from the green bypositioning your bags on the way to the nexttee
On the Putting Green DON'T:
- It is not necessary to look at your line fromevery angle.
- You do not need to have an alignment mark onyour golf ball and ensure that it is perfectlyaligned to the hole before every putt.
