Competition news

SeniorsReport

We begin this week's newsletter with anothergreat seniors report from their Masters and newsof another play off being required! Thanks toClarrie for the Report and Graham for thePhotos.

Seniors Masters

On the 4th/5th May the Seniors faced challengingconditions with a brisk easterly wind on bothdays of their annual Masters Competition. On thefirst day only three players scored below nettpar with Jim Darch leading by four shots fromIan Taylor and Seniors captain Larry Blackwell.Jim's gross score of 76 was the only score inthe 70's.

On day 2 saw the lead slip from Jim and StuartWeston (Vice-Capt.) matched the low score ofnett 64 and moved out of the chasing pack topost a nett 137. Late on the legend that is JohnDuffin returned a 79 (on his 81st birthday) fora nett 66 which meant he also carded a nett 137to force a playoff. Jim Darch and Ian Taylorboth finished on 138. In the four hole playoffJohn was giving Stuart two strokes which in theend proved decisive and Stuart Weston wascrowned 2017 Senior Masters Champion Thanks toall those on the Competitions Committee fortheir hard work in producing two very successfuldays and especially to Graham for his resultswizardry.

Seniors May Stableford

On Monday 8 May a total of 64 seniors took partin the monthly Stableford. The best result wasposted by Richard Brain who scored a mammoth 46points. Full Results were: - Div. 1 1st GeoffSmailes 39 pts 2nd Tony Bastable 38pts 3rdClarrie Haynes 37pts Div. 2 1st Richard Brain46pts 2nd Al Cubley 39pts 3rd Rod Whitfield38pts

Senior Club Matches

In the match against Studley Wood Kirtlingtonproduced their best performance of the season sofar gaining a 4.5 - 1.5 victory. Kirtlingtonwinners were Larry/ Pete M in the captain'smatch, Clarrie H/John D, Geoff S/Stuart W andGerry S/Bill B, well done to those pairs. In theremaining matches Chris Mc/Jim D halved and DaveM/ Derek K lost by one hole. This was the bestresult achieved against Studley for many years.The Match sheet for the away Match againstNaunton Down is on the noticeboard as is theannual match against the Ladies Section for theBlake Trophy - please sign-up.

Ladies Section

A big congratulations to the team of Jane Shaw& Glynis Weston who scored an excellent 44Points back on the 25th April in the Ping 4 BallBetter Ball Competition! Fingers crossed theyhave another points to get through to the nextstage. The top 50 pairs in England will qualifythrough to the GRAND FINAL. 

GRAND FINAL places will be awarded based on thetop 50 best stableford scores. The next 50 beststableford scores will qualify for the PLATEFINAL.

In the Ladies Parfection this was participatedby over 20 ladies with the winner being JaneShaw finishing 8 Up, in second place was SarahFisher 4 Up and in third Judith Carr 2 Up.

Jan Kavanagh and Jude Carr (and the rest oftheir team "Jan's Joggers") are walking amarathon (26.2 miles) around London overnight on13th May. Any sponsorship would be very muchappreciated, either via our online pages or bycontacting Jan, Jude or Sarah directly. For moredetails clickhere.

Gents Competition News

In the Gents Midweek Medal last Wednesday therewere 34 players taking part, strong windsthroughout the day made scoring tough, the top 3all scored Nett 68 with this going to countback.1st Place was Alberto Barraclough, in second wasJack Stevens who won the best gross with a 75and in third place was David Musson. The 2'scompetition was not won so this rolls over tothe next midweek stableford on Wednesday 24thMay.

In the Gents Weekend Medal 83 players took partwith once again some great scoring taking placeacross the 2 days with a Nett 62 posted by ColinProffitt, here are the top 3 divisional results:
