Rule of the week

How long can you wait?

Wehad a question this week from one of ourmembers:

Howlong can you wait for your putt to drop if theball is overhanging the hole?

16-2. Ball Overhanging Hole: When any part ofthe ball overhangs the lip of the hole, theplayer is allowed enough time to reach the holewithout unreasonable delay and an additional tenseconds to determine whether the ball is atrest.

If by then the ball has not fallen into thehole, it is deemed to be at rest. If the ballsubsequently falls into the hole, the player isdeemed to have holed out with his last stroke, and must add a penalty stroke to his score forthe hole; otherwise, there is no penalty underthis Rule.

So essentially you are given 10 seconds from thetime you reach your ball to see if it falls inor not. If it falls afterwards, you need to addone to your score.
