Club news

Hi All,

Hope you have all had a fantastic week both on and off the golf course!

In this newsletter Senior Captain Clarrie brings us up to date with last week's Seniors Masters.

Keep reading on to find out more news on our Junior 'Get into Golf' Fun Day on Saturday along with some photos on the build up to the Kirtlington Open today - more to follow next week.

Firstly we have some great news and would like to congratulate Lidia and Sander on the birth of their baby girl Ella who was born on Wednesday, 11 May and also congratulations to our Assistant Head Greenkeeper Steve Hirons and Laura on the birth of their baby boy Milo who was born on Tuesday, 26 April.

Competition news

Seniors Masters

On the 5th/6th May the Seniors enjoyed excellent weather in their annual Masters Competition. With the course in very good condition nearly half the field played to their handicap or better on the first day.

Lowest round of the day was by Graham Kelly who shot a 76 giving him a net score of 67. He was joined on this score by Ian Gordon (82 - 15 = 67) but both were eclipsed by the first day leader, Chris Myall whose 78 gave him a two shot lead with 78 - 13 = 65.

Special mention should be made of John Duffin (pictured) who continues to defy the ageing process. On his 80th birthday he scored his age to give him 80 - 12 = 68 to put him joint 4th alongside John Carr

Thanks also to Pam and Nick for arranging and producing a cake to celebrate John's birthday - he remains an example to us all.

Scores were much higher on the second day as the course was set up with much more challenging pin positions. Only three rounds below handicap were achieved with Chris McNulty and Alan Cubley both producing net 68s, with Chris finishing 3rd overall on countback over Alan.

It showed the closeness of the competition that the overall Senior Masters winner was decided by the last putt of the day. Ian Gordon and Chris Myall came to the last level but Chris missed a short par putt to send the competition into a playoff.

Ian (pictured in the Green Jacket) was crowned 2016 Senior Masters Champion by one stroke. This was perhaps very fitting as he was the only competitor to produce to below handicap scores on both days, 67 in the first round and 69 on the second day.

Thanks to all those on the Competitions Committee for their hard work in producing two very successful days and especially to Graham for his results wizardry.

Results Gross Scores

1st Graham Kelly 76 82 158, 2nd Colin Walters 79 82 161 and 3rd Chris Myall 78 85 163

Nett Scores

1st Masters Champion Ian Gordon 67 69 136, 2nd Chris Myall 65 73 137 and 3rd Chis McNulty 70 68 138

All set for the fourth Kirtlington Open in aid of Breast Cancer Hope.

On Wednesday Ian Swash and his team were busy setting up ready for The Kirtlington Open Charity Golf Day on Thursday with 128 players (32 teams) taking part.
