Fun Day Success!

Welcome to another addition of the KGCNewsletter bringing you up to date with what ishappening around the club. Thank you to everyonewho came and supported the family day atKirtlington Golf Club.


The day was a great success with over 100juniors and families attending. It was fantasticto see so many new faces visiting the club forthe first time and enjoying all the activities. 

The Club and Andy Taylor would also like to givea big thank you to all the staff and volunteersincluding Matt Gregorfor his help and support with this event, alsothanks to Jon Edwardsand the Junior Sectionalong with Sue Quainton

Cherry Picker Driver Required 

On Friday, 10 June we are looking forsomeone who has a Cherry Picker Licence and iswilling to operate this for approximately 3hours on the Friday afternoon, for moreinformation please speak to Pam.

Greenkeepers news 

Wentworth Greenkeeping support team 2016 

Congratulations again to Brett and Steve whohave been selected for the second year runningto be part of the 'European Tour' Greenkeepingsupport team at Wentworth at the end of May. 

Well done to Ollie too who was on standby buthas now been asked to work day one of thetournament. 

This gives the boys fantastic experience workingand supporting in one of the biggest golftournaments in the world. 

Grass cutting now in full flow with temperaturesstarting to rise.

All bunkers have now been weeded and tidied upfor the first time this year. This week we willbe over seeding and top dressing the greens.

Weekend stableford

In the Weekend Stableford we saw a masterclassfrom young Gregor McKenzierecording 41 pts and a gross of 68! 

The field across the two days was the highest ofthe year so far with 97 players teeing it up. 

Divisional Results were as follows: 

Div 1: 1st Gregor McKenzie41 Pts, 2nd Jimmy Summers39 Pts, 3rd Chris Mbyall 38Pts 

Div 2: 1st Pete Milton40 Pts, 2nd Ryan Hunt40 Pts, 3rd Chris Kip38 Pts 

Div 3: 1st Paul Hutchings38 Pts, 2nd Steve Webb38 Pts, 3rd Andrew White38 Pts

Following Gregor's victory at the weekendanother one of the Juniors WillSmith came in with 43 points towin the MayMidweek Stableford in a field of 30players. 

1st Will Smith43 Points, 2nd Gary Quainton40 Pts (lowest Gross 72) and 3rd BrettMoggridge 

In the Ladies Weekend Stablefordthis was won by Elaine Huntwith 38 pts, second Valerie Eadle35 pts and in third was ChristineClark with 35 pts.

Senior section 

Seniors May Stableford 

On Monday, 9 May a total of 58 seniors took partin the monthly Stableford. 

The best result was posted by MickeyWalker who scored 42 points. 

Full Results were:

Div. 1 1st Tom Walsh38pts, 2nd John McHarg38pts and 3rd Clarrie Haynes37pts (cb.) 

Div. 2 1st Michael Walker42pts, 2nd David Hughes39pts and 3rd Tony Bastable38pts 

Senior Club Matches

The Match sheet for the away Match againstNaunton Down is on the noticeboard as is theannual match against the Ladies Section for theBlake Trophy - please sign-up

In the match against Studley Woodwe faced a very strong Studley team and althoughthere were a number of close finishes we lost 4- 2. 

Kirtlington winners were Jim D/Phil Jand Dave M/Mike P. Well doneto those pairs. 

Memorial Shield 

This foursomes competition is held yearly toremember Senior members of the club who havepassed on. 

This year we remembered PeterSims, MichaelLearoyd and RichardDavid

Michael's wife Mary and Richards's wife Gerryaccompanied by daughter Lucy presented thetrophy to the winners Phil Wigmoreand Phil Noble.Full Results were: 

1st Phil Wigmore/PhilNoble 38pts 
2nd Graham Fullagar/ChrisMcNulty 37pts 
3rd Ray Brooks/MikePrice 36pts 

Prior to the main competition a nine holecompetition on the Blenheim course was held(with very reduced handicaps). 

Winner was Kevin Crumellwith 19pts followed by Phil Noble(18pts) and Chris Basson(17pts).
