Winter Open Record Entrants

Despite blustery conditions on Sunday this didnot deter the 76 players we had for our thirdopen of the winter. This was a record number forthese opens with the incentive of £100 1stprize Voucher for the second month running,along with a second prize of £70and third prize £50.

Winner of the Members 1st prize and £100 Voucherwas Steve Bookerwith an impressive 41 Points, in second placewas Will Smith40 Points and in third place was AndyChick 39 Points.

In this Open we welcomed visitors fromWentworth, East Berkshire, Burford, BramptonHeath, Buckingham, Magnolia Park, Bicester,Witney Lakes & Oxford Golf Clubs. In thevisitor category this was won by JamieTovey (Wentworth Golf Club) 39Points, in second was Ryan Allen(Oxford Golf Club) 38 Points and in third was MarcO'Leary (Magnolia Park) 37Points.

Course news 

GreenkeepersNews - Improvements taking place

It has been a Productive week on the 9 holeBlenheim course bunkers. These bunkers willbe out of play for approximately 2 months.Greenworks on the main course are due tostart from next Monday 6 March weatherpermitting up until Friday 10 March.

Senior section 

Seniors February Medal

On Thursday 23 February a total of 37hardy souls (maybe the adjective should befoolhardy) braved what Storm Doris could throwat them and took part in the monthly Medal. Withwind conditions verging on making playimpossible the early starters had an advantageas it was after 10.00 a.m. that the windsincreased to gusts of 60 mph.

Glen Marshall posted the lowestgross with a score of 81 which gave him a nettscore of 73 but it was Chris McNultywho was the overall winner with a nett 71.TheCSS for the competition was 72 and onlyreductions in handicaps occurred. Full resultswere:

Div: 1 1st - Chris McNulty 88 - 17 71, 2nd -Bill Keys 87 -1473 (cb), 3rd - Pete Milton 85 -12 73 (cb) Div: 2 1st - Stuart Weston 94 - 2173, 2nd - Dave Basey 100 - 23 77, 3rd - RichardBrain 107 -28 79 (cb)

Gents Voucher Prize Changes

From March 1st the Gents Voucher Prizes haveincreased: 1st Prize £15,2nd Prize £12.50, 3rdPrize £10.00.There will now also be a prize for the lowestgross for £7.50.

Competition results 


In the Ladies Medal on Tuesday 28th Feb therewere 18 players participating. The top 3 playerswere: 

1st - Barbara Williams Net 71,2nd - ValerieEadle Net 75, 3rd - JackieThompson Net 75.

For the Ladies Medal on Saturday 25th Feb MargaretMoggridge was the overallwinner with a Net 72 followed in second place byIzy Edwardswith a Net 76.


In the first Gents Midweek Medal of the season19 players participated. In 1st place was SteveBeahan Net 68, 2nd DaveCarter Net 69, and 3rd ChrisMcNulty Net 69. Lowest Grosswas Jack Stevenswith a 76.

Proposed New Rule Changes

Golf's rule makers, the R&A, this weekannounced more than 50 proposed changes to theway the game is played. Changes include removingpenalties for various minor infractions andmoves to speed up the pace of play. Ifconfirmed, rule changes would come into effecton January 1, 2019.
