Kirtlington Charity Open 9th May 2019 for Thinking of Oscar Fifteen teams from all sections of the club and a heartening number of visitors dodged the showers to make this a very successful event for the Kirtlington-based charity Thinking of Oscar which is working to make life better for children in hospital.
Locating a barbecue at the 10th tee was an inspired move which boosted morale, and providing a fine buffet lunch kept players happy till the announcement of prizes. The scores were very tightly grouped, and the prizes were spread among men, ladies and visitors. |
|
Afterwards David Cole, Oscar’s Dad and co-founder of the charity, explained some of its achievements and ambitions for the future, and thanked everyone who had worked to make the day so worthwhile. Gary, Pam and the staff had put in a tremendous effort, and those who took part contributed with great generosity to the raffle and auction. The outcome was a handsome contribution of £1,800 to this very good cause. A big thankyou to all the prize donations made. |
Top Scores on the day were: - 1st - Thinking of Oscar Team 2 – 83 Points.
- 2nd - Mike & the Mechanics – 80 Points (CB last 6 holes).
- 3rd - Inside Out – 80 Points (CB).
- 4th - Wantage & District Golf Society – 80 Points.

Greenkeepers Report
Please click here to view Brett’s Spring 2019 Report along a report on the chemical withdrawals. |
What would you say if we could show you a way of achieving greater accuracy and longer distance from the tee? You would say yes, right? Well, here’s your answer… |
| Have you been custom fitted?
|
|
First things first, the easiest way to achieve the holy grail of long, straight drives is to find the middle of the clubface every time, which is easier said than done for most of us. Following that, it’s all about launching your drives high with a good spin rate. Simple, right? It doesn’t matter how fast or smoothly you swing, if the clubhead and shaft are a bad match for the way you play, your chances of sending a perfect drive into the air will be seriously hampered. |
| Titleist TS drivers
|
So, the very first thing we need to do is get you fitted correctly. During the process, we will chat about your game, watch you hit some balls, and assess what you have told us in order to find the right shaft/head combination for your game. Two clubs that we will definitely try are Titleist's TS2 and TS3 drivers. Both have Titleist's Speed Chassis for incredible speed increases, with the TS2 offering maximum forgiveness from a high launch and the TS3 providing shot-shape correction. So, rather than going for the easy online purchase, come down to the club for an enjoyable custom fit session with a member of the team. |
