Competition news

The R&A’s 9 Hole Challenge

On Wednesday a field of 37 players took part in the R&A’s 9 Hole Challenge. This was held on the front 9 of the main course and for the first time was also set up as a 9 hole handicap qualifier.

The winner was Kevin Crumell with a remarkable 25 points (33 gross)! In second place was Tim Berrie on 22 points.

These scores will be sent off to England Golf and we await to see if Kevin and Tim’s combined score will be enough to progress to Royal Portrush where the open is playing played. Fingers crossed!

As a club we will certainly look to run more of these 9 hole qualifiers on the main course.

MacNiven Thistle Results

11 teams took part in the MacNiven Thistle, with this needing to be decided on countback, the top three teams were:

1st - Reg Mitchell, Dave Basey & Kevin Crumell 129 (Countback)
2nd - Andrew Gardiner, Duncan Teall & Barbara Williams 129
3rd - Tracey Russell, Ritchie Dawe & Bob Stevens 131

Club Matches Round-Up

There were lots of club matches taking place at the club over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Saturday – The Scratch Team hosted Cotswolds Golf Club losing 3-0.

Sunday – In the Hillman Trophy Plate, Kirtlington hosted Donnington Grove losing 5-2. Winning players were Tom Stevens and Tim Berrie.

Monday – The Gents were at home in a friendly V’s Ivanhoe winning 4-1. The winning teams were Stan Green & Richard Kershaw, Wes Rankin & Chris Kip, Markos Carr & Duncan Teall, Steve Booker & Richard Carr.

Gents vs Juniors Match

Kirtlington Juniors invite you to join them for the annual Gents V Juniors Match Saturday 8th June @ 11am. If you are available for the challenge please add your name to the signup sheet on the Main Competition Board.

Junior news

The Junior CeeJay Trophy

In the Junior CeeJay Trophy, six players took part with some magnificent scores being posted. The top three scores were:

1st - Holly Gibbs - 45 points
2nd - George Slater - 41 points
3rd - Markos Carr - 39 points

Also well done to Ellie Mitchell, Ritchie Dawe and Tia Johnstone.

Nearest the Pin on 16 was George Slater and Longest Drive on 18 was Markos Carr.

Ladies news

Ladies EG Medal

In the Ladies EG Medal on Tuesday 28th May, 12 players took part with the CSS 74. The top three were:

1st - Tracey Russell - nett 73
2nd - Izy Edwards - nett 75 (Lowest Gross 80)
3rd - Linda Breaker - nett 78

Seniors news

Seniors May Roll-Up

A total of 30 Seniors took part in the monthly roll-up on Thursday 23rd May. In very good playing conditions, over half the field played to their handicap or better and it was very tight for the prizes with Steve Hewer scoring 40 points winning by one from four players.

Full results were:

1st - Steve Hewer - 40 points
2nd - Mike Ashmore - 39 points (cb)
3rd - Laurie Bryant - 39 points (cb)

Nearest the pin winners were Ray Brooks (7th in 2) and John McHarg (16th).

Seniors Matches

After a string of good results, the Seniors team were on the wrong of a drubbing when they lost 5.5 - 0.5 away to Naunton Down. Last year Kirtlington won both home and away matches but were unable to live with their opponents. Alberto Barraclough and Antony David gained Kirtlingtons’ half point.

Please note - As of Saturday 1st June Preferred (Winter) Rules will no longer be in play.

Stan Green’s Captains Day

The Captain's Day will be held on Saturday 15th June.

Come along and join in with an 18 Hole Stableford (11:00am – 1:30pm) followed by a rolling BBQ!

There will be prizes for Ladies, Gents & Juniors and Nearest the Pins & Longest Drives

The sost is £12 per person (payable on the day). There will be a raffle (approx. 5pm) followed by prizegiving.

(Golf only is not an option)

The term 'gapping' is commonly used to refer to the yardage distance between each of the wedges in your bag. We want to break this thought process and get you to think about gapping for your entire set, because any unequal gaps between clubs will have a detrimental impact on your game.
