Competition news

The Summer Open

In the July Summer Open, we had 80 players take part with 13 of these players’ visitors.
Some excellent scoring in both the Members and Visitor sections were posted resulting in a CSS both days of 38 points with countback being required to decide this.

Top 5 Members Section:

1st - Oliver Black - 41 Points Countback (Best Members Saturday Score).
2nd - Mark Edgar - 41 Points Countback.
3rd - George Slater - 41 Points (Best Members Friday Score).
4th - Mark Ellis - 40 Points.
5th - Cameron Robertson - 39 Points.

Top 3 in the Visitor Section:

1st - Alfonso Carter (Bromsgrove) - 41 Points.
2nd - Joe Witty (Northampton County) - 39 Points (69 Gross).
3rd - Harry Hunting(Mill Ride Golf Club) - 38 Points.

In the Order of Merit Jack Stevens leads the way with a score of 146, the top 5 currently in the prizes:

1st - Jack Stevens - 146.
2nd - Patrick Patten - 145.
3rd - Jacob Boyes - 144.
4th - James Summers - 144.
5th - Ray Cross - 143.

Matches Roundup

Oxfordshire Foursomes Section 2 Kirtlington Lost 2-1 away at Cotswolds Club Chipping Norton, the winning team for Kirtlington was Richard Carr & Leon Slade

In the Ox Trophy played at North Oxford, Bicester were the winners on the day with North Oxford Second and Kirtlington 3rd.

Top scorers for Bicester were Wes Rankin 43 Points Chris Williams 38 Points and Stan Green and Chris Kip both scoring 36 points each.

Notices

New Early Competition start times – until end of August 2019.
Mid-Week Comps/Seniors Comps/Ladies Comps.
You are now allowed to start competitions from 07:30 am in the morning.
This is available until the end of August 2019.
Next year these times will be available from 1st May – 31st August yearly.

Seniors news

Seniors July Medal

On the day that record temperatures were recorded a total of 56 seniors played in the monthly Medal on Thurs 25th July. The weather did not restrict good scoring but there were nearly a quarter of entrants who posted a no return (many not completing) and the CSS was 71.

In Division 1 Kevin Crumell posted the lowest gross of 77 but lost the nett score by one stroke to three players who posted nett 68s. In Division 2 David Powell produced the best nett score of the day with a nett 66 to win by three strokes.

Division 1

1st - John McHarg (82 -14) 68 (cb).
2nd - Chris Myall (79 – 11) 68 (cb).
3rd - Brian Clargo (84 – 16) 68.

Division 2

1st - David Powell (95 – 29) 66.
2nd - Mike Price (89 – 20) 69.
3rd - Paul Craddock (89 – 19) 70.

Seniors Match

Monday 29th July marked the start of a run of Senior matches when we entertained Waterstock and produced a 4 – 2 victory. With the captain away Roy Smith took over the helm and alongside Clarrie Haynes won the captains match 3 and 2. There were also wins for Jim Darch/Brian Clargo (1 up), Gerry Shaw/Paul Stewart (4 and 3) and Larry Blackwell/Mike Lisseter (4 and 3). Pete Milton/Paul Wilkinson (3 and 2) and Jim Lodge/Antony David (5 and 4) both lost their matches.

Senior Summer Pairs

The first of the senior summer match play competitions has been completed. Congratulations to Kevin Crumell and Ray Brooks who defeated John McHarg and Steve Doulton in the final 5 and 4 although the match was closer than the score suggests.

Seniors and Ladies Mixed Team Event - Thursday 22nd August

Junior news

Junior Matches

On Sunday the Junior team travelled to Studley Wood for a Junior League Match losing 2-1 overall.
Winning Junior Team was Ritchie Dawe (now off a handicap of 9!) and Holly Gibbs.

Well done also to George Slater and Beau Spencer who also played very well on the day.

U.S. Kids Golf Fun Day - Wednesday 21st August 2019

Come along to the U.S. Kids Fun Day at Kirtlington Golf Club and enjoy games, demos and competitions for juniors.

BBQ and refreshments are available.
All equipment and range balls provided.
Short game and mini-golf challenges.
