Competition news

A busy week at Kirtlington

In what proved to be one of the hottest ever August Bank Holidays it was also a week of incredible Stableford scores being recorded in both the gents and ladies competitions.

Gent's Foursomes Cup

On Sunday 14 teams took part in the Gents Foursomes Cup, the top 3 pairs were:

1st - Brian Boyes & Jacob Boyes - 66.0.
2nd - Gary Quainton & John Williams - 67.5.
3rd - Richard Kershaw & Lawrence Whitney - 69.0.

Well done to all that took part.

Captain's Roll-Up

On Monday in the Captain’s Roll-Up 47 players took part with some unbelievable scoring.
In 1st place and the overall winner was Chris Kip 47 points! The best front 9 went to John Williams 24 points and the best back 9 also went to Chris Kip with 24 points.

Thank you to everyone that took part with lots of money raised for the Captain’s charity.

Upcoming Mixed Competition - Kirtlington Crystal

Sunday 8th September Core Time 8:30am – 9:30am.
Mixed 4BBB Stableford & 2 Course Lunch.
Cost £15 per golfer.

Entry Sheet on Mixed Noticeboard in the corridor.

Closing Date for entry and fees 12 noon on 1st September.

Ladies news

Ladies Stableford

A big well done to Holly Gibbs on a magnificent 47 points in the Ladies Stableford on Tuesday. 23 players took part in the Stableford with a CSS of 35 points, in 2nd place was Tracey Russell 37 points and in 3rd was Jackie Thompson 36 points.

Seniors news

Seniors Ladies Mixed Competition

On Thursday 22nd August the seniors joined the ladies in a mixed team competition. Teams consisted of 2 seniors’ and one Lady and the best two Stableford scores counted on each hole. Course condition were good despite it being Greens work week and a number posted good scores.

Full results were: -

1st - Chrissie Clark, Ray Brooks and Cliff Moss - 82 points.
2nd - Gill Lodge, Glenn Marshall and David Powell - 79 points cb.
3rd - Linda Walton, Clarrie Haynes, Bill Brown - 79 points.

Nearest the pin winners were Chrissie Clark (4th) and Trevor Roberts (16th).

Seniors Match

On Tuesday 27th August the seniors lost the home against Cherwell Edge 2½-3½. In the closest of encounters 3 matches went to the 18th and Kirtlington only gained a half a point from these. Antony David and Trevor Roberts; and Roy Smith and Paul Stewart were the Kirtlington winners.

Technique

The first thing you must do is accelerate through the ball and stay aggressive. It's when we get a little scared or take our eye off the ball that things start to go wrong, all of which we can explain during a short game lesson.

Wedge

Your wedge plays a vital role with worn grooves and incorrect bounce leaving you at risk of a bladed shot through the green. Nightmare!

Spotlight | Titleist TS hybrids

TS2 or TS3?

You will probably recognise these names from the new drivers that Titleist released last year. Well, they've carried on their pursuit of speed and have conjured up these two beauties as a result.

Both offer extreme yet controllable distances, along with more forgiveness when compared to previous Titleist hybrids.

The TS2 has a larger head and is arguably easier to hit, whilst the TS3 comes with the SureFit CG for ball flight control.
