Course news

Notice - Both courses are open

All those that can carry please carry

Please be aware that due to the recent heavy rainfall both golf courses are extremely wet. We would appreciate it if all golfers could carry their golf bags if possible. This may help us to prevent enforcing a total trolley ban in the near future.

Competition news

Roundup

In the November Poppy Appeal Medal, ninety-six players took part, on Saturday the field was just eleven players with this once again weather affected plus the rugby final being played. On Sunday in much calmer conditions, an incredible eighty-five players entered.

The overall winner with a magnificent nett 61 was James Wilson and the lowest gross was Derek Thomas with a 72.

Top three across the three divisions:

Div 1 (41 players): 1st Todd Parker Hunt nett 65; 2nd Paul Knight nett 66; 3rd Mike Nugent nett 67 (c/b).
Div 2 (22 players): 1st John Aslett nett 64; 2nd Collin Proffitt nett 68 (c/b); 3rd Tim Berrie nett 68.
Div 3 (33 players): 1st James Wilson nett 61; 2nd Dimitri Lekkas nett 64; 3rd Andrew Brown nett 67.

The date of Wednesday, 13 November sees the Gents Midweek Stableford, there is also a roll-over in the twos following no winners in the past midweek competition!

Winter League round up - What a game!

With the Winter League now in full swing, it’s great to hear reports of some great matches taking place and how close many have been going right to the eighteeth-hole.

One notable match took place on Sunday between the teams of Markos and Richard Carr against Anthony Lamb and Bob Lomas. With Anthony and Bob one down going down the last, having been three down with three holes to play they managed to salvage a draw after Bob holed his 184-yard second shot into the eighteenth.

A relatively small field of five three balls entered this month’s team competition. The prize winners were as follows:

1st (74 points): Bill Brown, Tony Bastable and Ian Walton (£7 each).
2nd (72 points): Cliff Moss, Dave Powell and Brian Clargo (£3 each).

This year's AGM is on Wednesday, 13 November at 7:00pm in the clubhouse. All senior members are welcome to attend.

It's a fair old way

We don’t mean to be gloomy but winter golf can be a little disheartening for several reasons, but none more so than hitting the ball considerably shorter than in summer. A combination of the ball not rolling out as much and it not flying as far through the air results in shorter drives and longer approach shots; so, what’s the best way to deal with it?

First of all, we need to accept that we're going to have to go up a club or two during winter.

We will all find ourselves further back on the fairway than during peak season, which means that you might need to hit a fairway wood off the deck to reach the green.
